Italian & German Instructor
A native of the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia (Nuoro), Patrizia Johnson made her way to Virginia and Speak! Language Center via a quite interesting international itinerary. She has taught Italian in places as different and as distant as Winchester, England (at Linguarama and Bi-lingua schools, and in a local prison), at Inlingua in Bonn and Cologne, Germany, in Bloomington, Indiana, and Prince Edward County, Virginia. A life-long foreign-language aficionado, Patrizia earned her Certificate in English Proficiency from the University of Cambridge, her PNDS (Certificate in German) from the University of Bonn and her Degree in Italian Studies at London University. In Bonn she also studied Spanish, Spanish-German translation and Italian literature at the university and worked as a translator and interpreter. As multi-lingual as she is multi-talented, Patrizia speaks English, German and Spanish fluently, French and some Sardinian and has studied Latin, ancient and modern Greek, Russian, Romanian, Portuguese and even Esperanto! Her interests include literature, sociolinguistics, Italian women’s studies as well as cooking and travelling. For three years she successfully led an opera trip to Italy together with her opera colleague Mary Ann Archer. In her weekly courses she shares her passion for the Italian language and all aspects of Italian culture with fortunate students of Speak!
